I hope everyone enjoyed the July Book Club choice, The Names. We had a great discussion at our book club meeting. This was a 4-star read for me, and I highly encourage everyone to keep it on their TBR list if they haven't had a chance to read it. It's a great concept and an engaging and thought-provoking read.
In August, we're going to keep it local with author Elaine DeBohun's All the Yellow Posies. I was delighted to have Elaine on my The Happy Meemaw Reads podcast (catch the episode here, https://open.spotify.com/episode/5i4m0uYhk8UYcx2yB2yeOT?si=cg7xRP3gQ7exuppTHcPjMg) and hear the story about what inspired her to become a writer.
I'm looking forward to reading this historical fiction with a hint of mysticism, set in Summer 1919: the Great War has come to an end, and small-town Fredericksburg, Virginia, is still reeling from the last outbreak of 1918 influenza. Free-spirited Lou, an aspiring journalist from a wealthy family, answers the classifieds for an apartment above a local tailoring shop. There, she meets Holden Thompson—who's just returned from the Western Front. As she's brought further into his circle of family and friends, Lou quickly learns that, despite being charismatic, handsome, and witty, Holden is tormented by the past. When an unforeseen tragedy splinters the tight-knit group, Lou must follow the invisible thread and stitch her life back together.
If you're local and you'd like to join us, our book club will meet Tues, Aug 26 at 7 pm at Wegmans in Fredericksburg, VA. If you can't attend, please comment and let me know how you enjoyed the book!
Happy August, thanks for reading!
