The best part of this journey in finding my creative outlet has been, hands down, working with Deborah Newman, web designer extraordinaire, uniter of communities, and all-around fantastic girl. I met her when she revamped the website of the museum where I volunteer, and I couldn't wait to start working with her on what is now my beautiful website.
She has been so patient as I've worked to learn this new technology and I couldn't have accomplished what I have without her. She is a delight, lighting up the room when she enters. She's funny and kind. I love being in her orbit.
So it may surprise you to learn that 12 years ago, she very suddenly lost the love of her life while her 7-year-old daughter was at school. I love that Deb wanted to share her story, warts and all. For someone who never saw herself as a wife and mom, I know she could never have imagined having to dig her way out of crippling grief to find the sun again.
I thank her so much for allowing me to share her story, in hopes that others might know you're not alone. We all grieve in our own way; there is no right or wrong way to do it. I hope you enjoy this candid conversation.
