Fire Safety - Don't Sleep On It

This week, my friend Patricia Wolfrey of the Rappahannock Chapter of the American Red Cross joins me again to talk about fire safety. October is always Fire Safety Month because we all really ramp up our use of fire in the fall and winter. No matter how often you hear it, you can't afford to sleep on fire safety. It's info that's become part of the fabric of our lives, but you truly can't hear it enough, and it might remind you to complete a step you missed. Take some time to listen and be sure you've thought about all the steps you can take to stay safe.

Last week the fire department came to my grandsons' daycare. The 4-year-old caught lots of the details the fireman gave them. Tricia mentions in this conversation that kids are the best ambassadors and informers when it comes to sharing info. We all also have zero excuses for not having working smoke alarms - American Red Cross will get them to you and even come out and install them. If you test yours and they aren't working, don't be afraid to contact ARC and let them help you.

Most of all, be sure to share to develop a family plan and share it with all of your family members. The more you talk about it and practice, the safer everyone will be in an emergency.

We all love our bonfires and fire pits and fireplaces. Let's make sure we're enjoying them while keeping everyone safe!

Thanks for listening!
